Bushfire Update - 11/02/09 Print E-mail

People have been very generous with offers of emergency accommodation and supplies. However, as access to the affected areas opens up we have an urgent need for horse halters, lead ropes, hay and chaff.  We have managed to get 100 bales of hay through to Kinglake today and another load of dog & cat supplies. Currently 160 animals are in emergency accommodation. Our vets are currently treating burned goats and dogs from the fire affected areas. The Yarra Glen Fire relief centre has been distributing pet and livestock foodstuffs from our distribution centre into the surrounding areas.

We have a Vet team ready and prepped to go into the field to address animal needs in the fire affected areas. They will be available to attend in Flowerdale, Yea, Yarra Glen, Chum Creek, Healesville, Toolangi and throughout Murrundindi and the Yarra Valley. There will be no charge for animals treated for fire related issues or for the animals for fire victims.

Fodder, hay and dog and cat supplies are available from the shelter and can be collected by people in need. We also have crates, cages, hutches, bird cages etc for housing animals.
