BEQUESTS"A very special way to help Animal Aid"Leaving a Bequest to Animal Aid in your will enables us to provide ongoing help for lost, abandoned and abused animals. The survival of Animal Aid has always depended on the generosity of the community. This generosity comes in many forms. For some, it is by donating their time to the shelter, by volunteering their efforts, walking dogs, involvement with the Fundraising Committee and in general operational assistance for the Shelter. For others, it could be making a donation to support the work the Animal Aid does. Both of these forms of support are invaluable, but the financial donations that have been received through bequests have been crucial in keeping the shelter operating over the years. One of the fundamental forms of financial support that the Shelter depends on for the continuing work of animal welfare is Bequests. The bequests that are received help fund the ongoing development of the facilities of the shelter and other operational needs like improving the welfare dog runs and largely contribute to covering the costs that are incurred in feeding the animals. For the past several years, Ken Smith and Associates have been an invaluable support to our organisation by providing us with an Honorary Legal Service. They have proven to be very helpful and caring, and have shown a strong commitment towards helping Animal Aid help animals in need. They have agreed to further support our work by offering a discounted rate for Victorian Animal Aid Scheme Supporters who wish to either update or set up their will, and to include a bequest to the Animal Aid. We recommend the following wording be used in a bequest to Animal Aid in a clients Will: "and I leave to the Victorian Animal Aid Trust of 35 Killara Road, Coldstream, Victoria, 3770 ........ (insert the amount of money or percentage of estate or description of property to be left) free of State and Federal duties and declare that the receipt of the Secretary or other authorized officer of the Victorian Animal Aid Trust shall be a full discharge to my Executors for this bequest." Should surviving pets be involved, potential benefactors should be given specific instructions regarding arrangements for the pets. You should also make sure that your wishes regarding any pets are well known to friends, neighbours and executors, as it sometimes happens that pets are disposed of by well meaning 'helpers' before the Will is read. Animal Aid offers 'foster' homes rather than long-term housing at our shelter for animals whose owners have passed away. This means that the animals are placed with 'carers' who will provide the animal with a loving and caring environment. The animals always remain the property of Animal Aid, and if for some reason the new 'carers' cannot continue to look after the animal, they are returned to us. Animal Aid provides any medical treatment that may be required including annual vaccinations. We believe that it is better for the animals to accommodate a home environment rather than house them in kennels or catteries. If you are going to require us to care for your pet, at some future time, it will be helpful if you notify us in advance so that when we are contacted by your family or estate we will already have your details and your wishes for your pet. Thank you again for your kind consideration of Animal Aid and we hope that this information is of assistance to you.
