Two of our young hopefuls, Bonnie and Clyde, took a trip to the big smoke last week end to play their part in promoting the PEDIGREE® Adoption Drive. This collaborative partnership between Mars Pedigree and PetRescue encourages people to adopt dogs from shelters and rescue services and aims to make Australians more aware of the plight of homeless dogs. As part of this promotion, one of Melbourne's most popular footy shows 'Before the Game', which airs every Saturday evening during the footy season, feature dogs from different shelters around metro Melbourne. Last week it was our turn and I have to say that Bonnie and Clyde, 4 month old Border Collie, Jack Russell cross pups, were on their best behaviour and took what could have been a very overwhelming experience totally in their stride.
It was a very long day for all of us and I'm not sure who was more tired, the pups or Nell and I, as we don't get to town much either. Animal Aid is very happy to be a part of this initiative because it is all about finding relinquished and stray dogs new and forever homes. If you are thinking about bringing a new dog in to your family please make adoption your first option. Visit or call your local shelter to find out what they have available before you go to a breeder, and above all else, please don't buy a puppy from a pet shop. Pet shops are a major contributor to the pet overpopulation problem and when you purchase a pet from them you create a demand. Demand requires supply and so the vicious cycle begins. Remember there are already thousands of dogs looking for a home in pounds and shelters every day, why not give one of them a chance. And just incase you were curious, both Bonnie and Clyde have already found a new home. |
