Patrick, 65, from Lilydale, has travelled more than 28,000 km and has dedicated 4445 hours for Animal Aid over just 2 ½ years, working on countless projects to further enhance the animals' opportunities to find new homes. Every week, Patrick hits the road from Coldstream to collect homeless and unclaimed animals from as far away as Bairnsdale, Macedon, Geelong and Baw Baw, to name just a few, giving them the opportunity to enjoy a positive future that without Animal Aid they would not have been given. Patrick also spends one day a week assisting the professional groomers by washing and drying dogs in the Animal Aid Grooming Salon. During the spring and summer months, Patrick is a regular member of promotional team and attends pet expos and community events, as well as collecting pet food, cages and bedding from donation drop off points and delivering goods to the Animal Aid Opportunity Shops all year round. According to Patrick, being an Animal Aid volunteer is a win-win situation. "Every minute I spend at Animal Aid gives me great satisfaction and fulfilment in knowing that I play a small role in helping out these delightful four-legged creatures, which all deserve a second chance," he said. "Being a grandfather of four, I appreciate and adore the family unit and strongly believe that homeless animals deserve the chance to be cherished by a family of their own." According to Animal Aid General Manager, Nell Thompson, the volunteers that give so generously of their time at our three shelters are the selfless heroes who do so much to keep Animal Aid humming. "Patrick is a great example of the quintessential volunteer at Animal Aid – selfless, dedicated and a real trooper. Animal Aid would simply cease to exist without people like Patrick." she said. |
